Although it's often thought that the Seven were a group of unknowns who became stars because of this movie, it certainly isn't true. Yul Brynner was, of course, a star in his own right; Steve McQueen was at the time starring in the hit TV series Ricercato vivo o morto (1958); Charles Bronson had been a working actor since 1951 and had his own TV series, Man with a Camera (1958); James Coburn and Robert Vaughn were well known through movie and TV westerns; and Brad Dexter had pivotal roles in Giungla d'asfalto (1950) and Mare caldo (1958). Only Horst Buchholz would have been unfamiliar to American audiences.
