Leonard Nimoy agreed to appear in this film only after Paramount Studios agreed to a settlement of his lawsuit against them for allowing his television series likeness to be used by advertisers without his consent or paying royalties. The lawsuit began after Nimoy and his wife had attended a stage play in London starring Henry Fonda. Afterwards, Nimoy was puzzled when Fonda told him that he hoped that Nimoy received a lot of money for all those ads. Nimoy was completely unaware that his likeness as Spock was being used in Heineken beer advertisements, including billboards and a now famous commercial.
