In a televised interview with WFAA-TV on the afternoon of Nov. 22, 1963, Abraham Zapruder stated that he clearly heard several loud shots at the instant of the assassination, but like many other bystanders, he initially believed them to be firecrackers set off as a prank. Zapruder further stated that when he saw President Kennedy lurching upright in his seat and grabbing his throat, he assumed that the president had also heard the shots and was attempting to play along with the gag.
