In the book, Vayentha is ordered by The Consortium to retreat after Robert hides at the Palazzo Vecchio, but she is later expelled. However, to prove she is capable of doing the job, she continues to search for Robert, and intends to kill him. In the film, she is ordered by The Consortium to shoot and kill Robert, when he hides at the Palazzo Vecchio. In both versions, she dies the same way.
