One of only three films to win the BAFTA, Golden Globe, and DGA awards for Best Director, but lose the Oscar (which went to Steven Soderbergh for Traffic (2000)). The other two are Argo (2012) (where Ben Affleck wasn't even nominated for the Oscar), which ironically went to Ang Lee for Vita di Pi (2012), and 1917 (2019), where Sam Mendes ended up losing to Bong Joon Ho for Parasite (2019).
