Due to Chris Kyle's tragic death so early in production, Bradley Cooper had unfettered access to Kyle's possessions of which the family had not yet had the time to sort or dispose. Cooper watched hundreds of hours of raw home movie footage and studied Kyle's wardrobe while researching the role.
