Imhotep's first appearance since La mummia (1932). The Mummy films were unique among the Universal Classic Monster series, and their Hammer Film remakes, in that the sequels had nothing to do with the original. They featured another mummy named Kharis who is resurrected by tana leaves to be controlled by a modern person, similar to a voodoo zombie, and popularized the idea of a shambling mummy still in the wrappings.
