At the end when the royal family is about to be executed, Anastasia keeps looking forward and has no reaction. According to production notes, this was used to show that Anastasia may have survived the shooting (as in the infamous 'Anna Anderson' theory). However, in 1991, when the remains were analyzed, it was proven that Anastasia had been killed with them all along.
