Composer Graham Tardif wrote the music and melody for the ten original songs for the film following which screenwriter Rolf de Heer wrote the songs' lyrics. "That liberated Graham in what he could do and it meant I had a bit of word-smithing to do. And it's taken me quite some time. It has been quite difficult," de heer said.
