This remake is quite different to both the book and the 1990 film. Some of the changes are as follows; Anne Hathaway doesn't wear a mask like Anjelica Huston, instead she is given a wide mouth, hence the scars near her mouth. The setting is 1960s Alabama instead of England. The cast is a mixtures of races instead of largely Caucasian.
