In a 2016 interview for The Wrap, Anthony Hopkins stated that he regretted returning to his role as Dr. Hannibal Lecter for this movie and Red Dragon (2002), believing that he should have limited his performance of the character to Il silenzio degli innocenti (1991), which he called "a good film". In the same interview he also said that he will never play Hannibal Lecter again.
