Two characters were written into the screenplay that do not appear in the original stage version: Alec Baldwin's Blake and Bruce Altman's Larry Spannel. David Mamet, who wrote both the play and the screenplay, agreed to write in the Blake character to provide some clarifying exposition. Altman's character was created to feature Shelley during an actual "sit", which does not occur in the stage version.
