One of the reasons Jeff Daniels was eager to play Harry was because he really wanted to work with Dennis Hopper who plays bomber Howard Payne in this movie. Daniels is a huge fan of Hopper's work, Easy Rider (1969) in particular. However Hopper and Daniels only share one scene in the film and have about three minutes of screentime together. Additionally Daniels and Sandra Bullock's characters have absolutely no screen time together, despite playing large roles in the film. Despite their limited screen time together the late Hopper praised Daniels in interviews calling him "a wonderful actor."
