The scene of the CGI talking fetus asking Marilyn Monroe if she was going to abort them again was heavily criticized and called "anti-abortion propaganda" by journalists, film critics, pro-choice and abortion-rights activists and audiences alike. In a statement to The Wrap, director Andrew Dominik said he doesn't think the movie is anti-pro-choice and that "no one would have given a shit about that if I'd made the movie in 2008". However, Dominik also said he did not believe that Monroe wanted to have a baby and never explained why he included in this movie scenes of abortions that didn't happen in real life.
