A scene deleted from the final print has Scarlett coming across John Wilkes, Ashley's father, when she goes to look for Dr. Meade at the Atlanta train depot were all the injured Confederate troops are congregating. Apparently Scarlett holds Wilkes in her arms and tells her that she came to look for Dr. Meade for Melanie is about to give birth to his grandson. Wilkes smiles and then passes away in Scarlett's arms. The mostly likely reason this was cut is that it would of contradicted the scene at the burned down Twelve Oaks the following day were Scarlett and Melanie come across his grave implying his was killed while fighting Union troops and then buried there.
