This effectively killed John Guillermin's feature film career. In the 1960s and 70s, he was a leading figure in Hollywood, helming such epic productions as La caduta delle aquile (1966), Il ponte di Remagen (1969), Shaft e i mercanti di schiavi (1973), L'inferno di cristallo (1974) and the remakes of King Kong (1976) and Assassinio sul Nilo (1978). However, he stumbled badly with the back-to-back failure of Sheena regina della giungla (1984) and King Kong 2 (1986). Guillermin made one more film, the TV movie Ricercato vivo o morto (1988) with Kris Kristofferson, before retiring in 1988. He died in 2015 at the age of 89.
