Director Joe Russo stated in an interview in early 2020 that he initially wasn't able to see the film during its theatrical release. This was due to Russo's busy shooting schedule. Once he finally saw it, he loved it. Russo called the film "a beautiful piece of filmmaking" and noted the film's themes of existential isolation and feelings.
