Matt Libby refers to the current (at the time) trend of all things Russian being in vogue. Gypsy violinists, cossack styled doormen and more were common sights in films and in real life. The trend would happen again for a brief period following the collapse of the Eastern Bloc, in the late 1980's and early 1990's.
