The top of Sam's piano is hinged to open in two directions, in order to allow Rick to hide the letters of transit inside the piano after Ugarte's arrest. A regular piano is hinged one way, to open on the player's side. The piano is painted in a Mustard Yellow color, with Islamic scroll work. Sold at auction in 2012 at the TCM Bonham's New York auction.
