On July 17, 1998, the remains of Tsar Nicholas II, his wife Alexandra, daughters Olga, Tatiana, and Anastasia, and some servants were formally laid to rest at Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg, Russia. The bones had been positively identified by DNA comparison with blood samples from European royal families. A fourth set of bones, suspected to be those of Alexis, weren't included in the analysis because the DNA had been contaminated by water.
