The murder victim in the Orient Express was unable to defend himself, because he was drugged before the murder. In the film, the drug is identified as Barbital. In real life, Barbital was marketed under the brand names "Veronal" and "Medinal". It was the first commercially available barbiturate. It was commonly used as a hypnotic between 1903 and the 1950s.
