Many of the cast played characters with the same or similar first names as their own, including nick-names. This was a record for the "Carry On" series. Sidney James played Sid Boggle, Charles Hawtrey portrayed Charlie Muggins, Barbara Windsor was Babs, Joan Sims was Joan Fussey, Bernard Bresslaw was Bernie Lugg, and Kenneth Williams was Doctor Kenneth Soaper.
