Due to the huge success of the first film and the immense anticipation of this film, the film was initially projected to earn about $130 million to $150 million in its opening weekend. However, due to circumstances such as the somewhat lukewarm word-of-mouth and the very long length of the film, the film opened at $92 million, a little over $30 million short of It (2017)'s $123 million opening.
