Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino originally wanted Sherilyn Fenn to audition for the role of Lorelai Gilmore but she was appearing in Rude Awakening (1998) at the time. Fenn later guest starred as Sasha, Jess' father's girlfriend and then played the recurring character Anna Nardini.
