Despite Cher's singing career, this is only the second musical in which she has appeared (she was previously in Burlesque (2010)). And although this marks Meryl Streep's fourth musical after Mamma Mia! (2008), Into the Woods (2014), and Ricki and the Flash (2015), she did musical appearances in Postcards from the Edge (1990), Death Becomes Her (1992), Stuck on You (2003) and A Prairie Home Companion (2006).
