The villain Kilgrave, played by David Tennant, was known as the Purple Man in Marvel comic books. In the comic books he was born in Croatia, his given name is Zebediah Killgrave and he was a spy that had an accident with chemicals giving him permanent purple skin and his powers. In this series he's depicted as a Englishman named Kevin Thompson who gained his powers though experiments in his youth and gave himself the name Kilgrave. He has normal colored skin but wears purple throughout the series as it is his favorite color. In addition, when Jessica is under his spell, or has nightmares or flashbacks about him, the scene lighting features the color purple. Kilgrave gives Jessica a purple dress in Jessica Jones: A.K.A. WWJD? (2015).
