First of only a few films to have three Best Supporting Actor nominees; the Oscar ended up going to Edmond O'Brien for La contessa scalza (1954) instead. Il padrino (1972) and Il padrino - Parte II (1974) also achieved a similar milestone with the latter being the only one to secure a win for one of its actors (Robert De Niro).
