One of the hardest tasks on the movie was finding the right voice for Casper. Director Brad Silberling listened to hundreds of kids that came off being too sweet and felt the parents told them to mince it up. He wanted someone like sounded like the right mixture of adolescent enthusiasm with the innocence of what he visioned Casper being like. Eventually casting Malachi Pearson for the part, despite not working on a movie prior.
