Derrickson draws a comparison between Strange and Kaecilius saying both men found themselves in a downward spiral before finding new purpose through investigating possibilities. The latter is the villain, but his monologue to Strange (while entrapped in the Crimson Bands) makes sense, but "can it ever be a good thing for that passion and that intention to drive you to kill people." He makes the comparison to real-world zealots who accept collateral damage in the name of furthering religious belief.
