In the film, the medical staff of an insane asylum prepare to inject a patient with a combination of Pentothal and morphine. "Sodium Pentothal" is a trademarked name for sodium thiopental, a synthetic barbiturate which was once a commonly used anesthetic. It has proved more useful for inducing medical comas. The substance is used for legal euthanasia in Belgium and the Netherlands, and for lethal injections of prisoners in the United States.
