This film is not a follow-up to Snyder's L'alba dei morti viventi (2004) which was written by James Gunn. In Dawn of the Dead, the outbreak was worldwide. In Army of the Dead, it is contained to Vegas. Army of the Dead (2021) will star Dave Bautista, who worked with Gunn in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
