The only movie in the franchise where the main protagonist gets attacked but the viewers don't actually see her get killed, as the camera turns off. However in the 6th movie, the main character mentions a family getting murdered in Nevada. So it is led to believe that Alex was in fact murdered by a possessed Katie.
