After F. Gary Gray saw Jason Mitchell's video audition he was asked to fly to LA for a callback to view his performance again. In order to avoid taking a chance with not being cast and spending money, 30 minutes later F. Gary Gray and Jason Mitchell Skyped for an 1hr and 17 minutes. This resulted in the decision to hire him for the role of Eazy-E.
