When Lara wakes up and meets Vogel, he's using a military can opener known as a 'P-38' or 'John Wayne' - it was standard issue to U.S. troops during Vietnam and the early 80's to open cans in the MCI kit ('Meal, Combat, Individual', which replaced the old C-RATs (Combat Rations)). It also came in handy as a screwdriver.
