According to the Director's Commentary he transitioned shots many times between John and Ink right together to be a hint to Ink's identity. There are 18 such transitions. One at the beginning has John talking then the title of the movie. One in the middle has Jacob saying "Where are this girls parents" Then it goes right to Ink. Somewhat near the end the transition goes from Ink to the ambulance John is in.
