David Caruso's character David Corelli finds a cuff link at Kyle Medford's house when he's investigating the murder of Kyle Medford. The cuff link in the film is a clue meaning he knows or already knew who really killed Medford and that it couldn't be his ex girlfriend Katrina and it had to be none other than his friend and Katrina's husband Matt and with reasons involving Medford blackmailing his friend and Katrina with pictures of her having sex with other men. In the original, after the conversation with Corelli and the governor of California, Matt tells his wife he killed Medford cause Medford was blackmailing them with pictures of her and gets away with murder in the end, but in the directors cut, Corelli recorded the conversation between Matt and Katrina meaning he knows or already knew and had to be sure and later gets out of his car to arrest Matt for murder.
