Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon), unlike the other movies of the franchise, either shouts or raises his voice in certain scenes, such as when Harry is selected by the Goblet of Fire, when he asks Harry if he put his name in the Goblet of Fire, and while confronting Barty Crouch, Jr. when he was posing as Mad-Eye Moody. This was heavily criticized by many Harry Potter fans, as the Dumbledore in the books was described as a very calm and laid back character, the way he was portrayed by Richard Harris in the first two movies; even when raising his voice, Dumbledore always did it in the most controlled manner. Gambon, however, has stated that he gave his own interpretation of the character without input from the books, which he never read as he "saw no point in it", as "every part I play is just a variant of my own personality".
