Renny Harlin later revealed that he funded the development of the initial script during a time between 2003-2004 when director Antti J. Jokinen stayed in Harlin's house in Los Angeles. Harlin got the executive producer credit. Jokinen also worked as a second unit director on L'esorcista - La genesi (2004).
