The official press statement about the production from it creator-director Sophie Hyde reads that the story "...is about the theatrical, obsessive, self-centered, delightful people who make up the Wallace-Donaldson family. I have a huge amount of love for this chorus of characters and the way they tease and grate against each other during this reunion to sell their family home. I also have an enormous amount of love for the city they live in, a place we tease and joke about with a certain amount of grit and which, in our story, also stands in for the idea of family and of home. Season one investigates our characters' idea of home and how their family has defined them, explored through the different point-of-view of each family member, the distinct perspective of on person per episode. Within this, the freedoms that feel so prevalent in this seemingly modern family are queried and laid bare. They focus on and squabble over the problem of their home and their belongings to distract themselves a problem they have never faced up to - their past. For me the delight of making this show was twofold; working with our trusted team of collaborators at Closer Productions - particularly Matthew Cormack and Matt Vesely (writers), Rebecca Summerton (producer) and Bryan Mason (DP, editor and producer) who all sunk their teeth so far into the family and the story that we wanted to tell, imbuing each episode with a unique tone but maintaining a flow and strength of narrative across the season, and the inspiring experience of working with this tremendous cast. It is with awe that I watch their performances, walking a fine line between comedy and drama and investing so deeply in the characters they portray. I found them all a total thrill and I look forward to sharing them with audiences".
