In two Otto Preminger films--this one and L'amante immortale (1947)--Henry Fonda's character both dislikes yet sympathizes with Dana Andrews' character. Also, in "Daisy Kenyon" Fonda played a WWII vet (as he was in real life) and here he's a WWII admiral as the war begins.
