When this movie was made in 1964, all the US Navy heavy and light cruisers that would have been in service at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack had either been decommissioned and scrapped, or transferred to a South American navy. Some of these had weapons and electronics systems that did not exist during World War II, so it was impossible to have a 1941/1942-era US cruiser in the movie, as no more existed.
