Country music singer and comedian Ray Stevens whose biggest hits include "Everything is Beautiful" and "The Streak" was asked to sing "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head", but he declined because Kris Kristofferson offered him his song "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" at the same time and Stevens was confident enough Kristofferson's song would be a hit for him. Ultimately Stevens version of "Sunday Mornin" proved to be unsuccessful and it found much more success when covered by Johnny Cash. Stevens said while accepting Raindrops would have been better for his career due to its success he would not have been able to sing the song as well as BJ Thomas who ultimately recorded it did.
