The town's name, Portorosso, is a conflation of those of two towns in the Cinque Terre area of the Ligurian coast: Monterosso and Porto Venere. While Portorosso is probably intended to be in the Cinque Terre, it doesn't much resemble either of these two towns. In its layout, however, it does closely resemble neighbouring town Vernazza; indeed the street name 'Via Vernazza' does appear in the film.
