Unlike the original animated film, which was believed to be set in France in the border of Germany, due to the art style backgrounds being inspired by the French tapestries and some Western European artworks, this remake is believed to be set in Scotland near the English border, due to King Stefan speaking in a Scottish accent and the emphasis of the fairies with the Moors having a Celtic feel.
