Though this picture is not a war film, director Samuel Fuller is well known for directing World War II films, having prior to this film just recently directed the 1980 film Il grande uno rosso (1980). Actually, White Dog (1982) extensively features a black-and-white World War II film showing on a TV set early on in it.
