There are five attributes that make this film unique amongst the Christopher Reeve Superman movies: (1) The only one not to have opening credits in space.(2) The only one without any nuclear weapons. In Superman (1978), Lex Luthor steals nuclear missiles with the intent of detonating one at the San Andreas Fault; in Superman II (1980), an atomic bomb frees the villains from the Phantom Zone, and the plot in Superman IV (1987) is about Superman ridding Earth of nuclear weapons.(3) This is the only one in which Gene Hackman, Susannah York, and John Hollis do not appear.(4) The only one not to have the Fortress of Solitude.(5) The only one not to have romance scenes with Superman/Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
