Filmed primarily in Venice, California, which at the time had hundreds of producing oil wells as evidenced by the derricks visible in many shots in this film. Oil was first discovered in this tourist area in 1929 and production peaked around 1942. At the time of this film, the oil field was in decline and by 1972 almost all the wells had been capped and the area began its transformation back into a tourist area once again.
