Though Kenneth Lonergan was contractually obligated to release a 150 minute film, 20th Century Fox compensated by releasing his preferred 186 minute cut on DVD for the home video release. The extended cut wasn't included on the Blu-ray Disc though, which only contains the theatrical cut. According to Lonergan, the director's cut had some "technical deficiencies which I hope to correct some day" which means it only exists as a low resolution digital version. A new HD edit and transfer for the film would have to be funded by the studio, and given the film's production controversy, seems rather unlikely.
