Censorship was not happy with a plot about a cop getting personal with a criminal. It was said that the president of the commision furiously said: "How could you put a cop, a state representative, on the same level of a burglar!". That's why the movie, whose filming began in February 1951, was distributed in theatres only at the end of the same year. Director Mario Monicelli stated that they had to deal a lot with the censorship commission, just as feared by director Luigi Zampa. For some scenes it was asked to make the cop not wear an uniform to avoid umoristic sketches being linked to a cop in an official uniform. The visa was finally obtained after several rejections.
