After the improv theater's space closes, Bill mentions that The Commune will reopen in a property - a former porn theater - that his father had bought for very little money with the intention of turning it into a Sephora. This is the same origin story as the original performance space for the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB), a now-influential improv comedy theater in New York that started out in a former strip club on West 22nd Street. Amy Poehler, a founding UCB member, told New York magazine that while they were starting to turn the strip club into an improv performance space, one of her first tasks was pulling used condoms out of the toilets.
